A case of forgery and cheating was registered against Adeel Khan, the elder brother of tainted paediatrician of Gorakhpur’s BRD Medical College, Dr Kafeel Khan, for using a fake driving licence to open an account in a nationalised bank in 2009.

The case registered at the Cantt police station in Gorakhpur notes that Khan, along with his aide Mohammad Faizan had allegedly used a fake driving license for opening an account with the Union Bank of India in 2009. They had also made a transaction of Rs 2 crore from the same account.

As per the local police sources, the matter was first informed to SSP Shalabh Mathur by Muzaffar Alam, who is a resident of Shekhpur. The SSP then had entrusted CO, Kotwali and Atul Chaube to investigate the matter, who confirmed that the complaint was indeed true.

During the probe Chaube found out that the bank acccount had actually been operated under Faizan’s name and was opened using Muzaffar Alam’s photograph. The driving license used as an identity proof was also fake and belonged to a person named Mohammad Zaheer.

As a result, “on the directives of the SSP Gorakhpur, a case was registered against Adeel Ahmad Khan and Mohammad Faizan under Section 419,420, 467, 468, 471 of IPC on the basis of a written complaint given by Muzaffar Alam,” said Chandrabhan Singh, Inspector of the Cantt police station.

“As per the complaint, the accused had also made transaction of Rs 2 crore from the same account. The investigation into the transaction made by the accused was still on,” added SSP Mathur.

This however is a new opening in the Khan family’s recent activities. While Adeel has now been booked under forgery case, his elder brother Kafeel is out on bail after being imprisoned for several months on the charges of negligence in children’s death at the Gorakhpur BRD Medical College.

Dr Kafeel, who was the nodal officer of the children ward was suspended and arrested along with eight other accused, after 12 children died within 24 hours, following an alleged disruption in oxygen supply of the college, in August last year.

Another brother Kashif Jameel was shot dead in June, by three bike-borne assassins who shot Jameel thrice, leaving him injured.

Adeel and family had demanded a CBI probe into the matter after police had failed to capture his brother’s killers. He has also met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath demanding a CBI investigation into the case.
