COVID-19: India reports 3.48 lakh new cases in 24 hours

On Wednesday, India’s total tally of Coronavirus cases surged to 2,33,40,938 with 3,48,421 new infections and 4,205 deaths in 24 hours, said the Union health ministry. The cases still remain beyond the 3-lakh mark since the last fourteen days.

News agency ANI tweeted as: “India reports 3,48,421 new #COVID19 cases, 3,55,338 discharges and 4205 deaths in the last 24 hours, as per Union Health Ministry.

India saw more discharges than fresh infections with 3,55,338 people being announced restored of Covid-19 at the same time. On Tuesday, the health ministry said that the states with heavy Covid-19 caseloads have been showing a decline.

The highest casualties were reported in Maharashtra (793), followed by Karnataka with 480 deaths. The top five states which have registered maximum cases are Maharashtra with 40,956 cases, followed by Karnataka with 39,510 cases, Kerala with 37,290 cases, Tamil Nadu with 29,272 cases, and Uttar Pradesh with 20,445 cases.

As many as 533 of the country’s 700-plus districts are now reporting a test positivity rate of more than 10 percent, the government said on Tuesday, underlining the large spread of the coronavirus infection in rural India in the second wave.

On Wednesday, The World Health Organization stated that a variation of the virus behind the increase in speed of India’s eruptive outbreak has been found in dozens of countries all over the world.
