These Popular Indian Songs Were Copied From Kpop Songs

Extravaganza Bollywood films are nothing without their chartbuster songs. We have grown up listening to some of the iconic Hindi songs, which remains evergreen among the teens. However, on the other side the music industry has been under fire in the international music scene for copying other artists. There have been instances, when Hindi filmmakers had blatantly copied outsiders songs and used them in their movies. Here, we have compiled few songs that were copied from Kpop tracks.

Bhool Bhulaiyan Title Track

‘Bhool Bhulaiyan’ title track featured Akshay Kumar, Shiney Ahuja, Vidya Balan, Ameesha Patel, Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav. The film was a huge success at the box office when it was released. The horror-comedy still remains in the list of most watched films in India. The title track was one of the USP in making it a hit movie. The film was directed by Priyadarshan and the title music video was composed by Pritam, sung by Neeraj Shridhar and the lyrics were penned by Sameer. The movie was released in theaters on 12 October 2007.

My Lecon by JTL

‘My Lecon’ is one of the music video created by Kpop group, JTL in the year 2001. The was released as a part of Enter The Dragon album under the label, YJ Music. JTL unofficially had disbanded in 2003 as its members began pursuing solo careers.

Baatein Kuch Ankahee from Life In A… Metro

‘Baatein Kuch Ankahee’ is the song from ‘Life In A… Metro’, the film which was released in the year 2007 and it was directed by Anurag Basu. The song was composed by Pritam and it was sung by KK. The lyrics were penned by Sandeep Srivastava. The beats and the melody of this song exactly matches to Korean song, ‘Ah reum da oon sa ram’.

Mantoiyat from Manto

Raftaar is among the list of most influential singers in Bollywood. His 2018 song for the film ‘Manto’ had attracted a negative attention, after netizens found out that it was copied from BTS member, RM’s song ‘Do You’. In ‘Mantoiyat’, Raftaar raps about social issues and raises many questions based on social norms. The concept of the song as well as music video seems to be copied from RM’s song. After receiving outrage on social media, the rapper even issued an official apology for the similarities between the two songs and stated that the music director was responsible for the content of the song, while singing was his part.

RM had released his song ‘Do You’ under the label of Big Hit Entertainment, it is from his mixtape which was released on March 20, 2015.

Pehli Nazar Mein from Race

‘Pehli Nazar Mein’ is a hit song from the film, ‘Race’ of 2012. The film starred Akshaye Khanna, Bipasha Basu and Saif Ali in the key roles. It was crooned by Atif Aslam and again this song was also composed Pritam. Even though it was a copied version, it was one of the biggest hits in India. The lyrics were penned by Sameer, while Pritam composed the whole music.

Sarang Hae Yo by Kim Hyung Sup

‘Musthbai Vasthundi’ is one of the popular Telugu songs from the movie, ‘Mr. Pellikoduku’ which featured Sunil. The film was directed by renowned music composer, Devi Prasad, the film was released in the year 2013. The  music composers had blatantly used G-dragon’s ‘Fantastic Baby’ lyrics as well as background score.
