Kolkata: School girl sexually abused by teacher, parents stage protests

Kolkata: A primary girl student has allegedly been sexually abused by a teacher at a Kolkata school. Patents staged a protest outside the school.

A student has allegedly been sexually assaulted by a teacher at a Kolkata school, police said. The school witnessed a massive protest after the crime came to light a few days ago. Several parents staged protests, demanding immediate action against the male accused.

According to the victim’s parent, the teacher sexually abused the girl on September 26. “We have arrested the accused. He has been accused of sexually abusing a minor student. A probe is on,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East Division) Kalyan Mukherjee told The Indian Express.

Following the complaint against the accused, the action was taken immediately. The accused has been booked under section 354 A (Sexual harassment) of IPC and also under relevant sections of the POCSO Act.

The protest outside the school took an ugly turn when they started pelting stones after seeing the accused leaving school premises in the morning.

Police rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. Some school property was also vandalised. The parents, however, refused to end their protest and also clashed with the police, following which the cops resorted to lathi-charge.

Earlier this year, a seven-year-old at a primary school in Bengal was sexually abused for a month, allegedly by the school’s security guard. The man was arrested in February.
