Maharashtra government on Friday announced a relief package of Rs 10,000 crore for the rain-affected parts of the state. The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) also confirmed that the amount will be disbursed before Diwali. The announcement was made by CM Uddhav Thackeray during a press conference.
“It is the govt’s duty to give help to those affected by flood & rains. After the review meeting, I’ve decided to give Rs 10000 crores help to farmers & affected people for various work in the flood-hit region. We’re trying this help reaches people by Diwali“, says Maharasthra CM Uddhav Thackeray
The CM made the announcement after reviewing the loss to crops, livestock, buildings in the areas which have been severely hit by rains in the state. CM Uddhav Thackeray also claimed that the Maharashtra government is yet to receive a total of around Rs 38,000 crore from the Centre.
Torrential rains in Pune, Aurangabad and Konkan divisions have destroyed crops on lakhs of hectares. Cash crops such as cotton, soya bean, gram, sugarcane, pomegranate have suffered extensive damage. Solapur in western Maharashtra and Osmanabad in central Maharashtra are the worst-affected.
