Mamata Banerjee Injured in Nandigram, suffers ankle and neck injuries

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee sustained severe injuries in Nandigram. The CM alleged that she was “pushed” by some persons at Nandigram in the East Midnapore district. The shocking incident took place hours after she filed her nomination papers to contest election from the Midnapore constituency.

I was inside the car and greeting the people. They came and banged the door. I sustained injuries on my leg…there were many people. But 4-5 people did it deliberately. This is certainly a conspiracy,” said Banerjee.

As reported by sources to PTI, The CM was admitted to SSKM hospital where a team of senior doctors tended to her injuries. As per a preliminary report by doctors, the injuries were detected in her left ankle, foot, right shoulder, forearm and neck. The CM will remain under observation for 48 hours.

The doctors added that Banerjee has been complaining of chest pain and breathlessness since the alleged attack,

While some leaders condemned the incident, many from BJP and Congress have termed the incident as “theatrics” and found it “unbelievable.”

Trinamool Congress leader Partha Chatterjee has said that the party will raise the incident of the attack with the Election Commission

Following which the Election Commission has sought a report from the West Bengal chief secretary Alapan Alapan Bandyopadhyay. The EC has also sought a report from Vivek Dubey, special police observer and Ajay Nayak, special general observer, West Bengal.

West Bengal Assembly elections will be held in eight phases starting from March 27. The final round of the polls will take place on April 29. The counting of votes will take place on May 2.
