A 21-year-old man was beaten to death by villagers when they learnt that he had raped a nine-year-old girl in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district.
The police on Saturday said that the man was lynched after the villagers found out he had raped his niece, while her grandmother was in a different room.
The accused identified as Taluka Purty, the victim’s paternal uncle, raped her in one room of the house on Friday night at Karlajori village which falls under the Muffassil Police Station jurisdiction. Also read: Uncle rapes niece for 4-year on pretext of treating ‘Manglik dosh’, arrested
Hearing her cries for help, the villagers reached the spot and caught hold of the accused and beat him up. He was later taken to a hospital in Chaibasa where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday afternoon, police said.
The girl has been sent for medical examination.
