Maratha quota issue: 26-year-old man hangs himself to death

26-year-old Kishor Shivaji Harde from central Maharashtra committed suicide over the Maratha reservation issue, as sated by the police.

Maratha quota issue is fast becoming a Pandora box. In a latest development, a 26-yea-old man committed suicide in Maharashtra over the Maratha reservation issue, as stated by police.

The deceased, Kishor Shivaji Harde, was found hanging from a tree in his farm in Galle Borgaon village under Khuldabad tehsil in central Maharashtra.

Th police also said that a suicide note written by Harde was found in his pocket. In the note, Harde has mentioned that because the Maratha community is not provided reservation in government jobs and educational institutions, has forced him to take this harsh step.

Quoting from the death note, the police said that it is not a suicide but the government has ‘murdered’ him.

When the villagers came to know about the suicide, they sat on dharna at the tehsil office in Khuldabad. Kishor Shivaji Harde was employed with a finance company in Yeola tehsil of Nashik district. Commenting on the matter, the police has registered a case and further investigations are on.

On a similar incident that took place in Ahmednagar on Monday, a 16-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide by hanging over the Maratha quota issue. So far, in the last two months almost eight people have committed suicide in Maharashtra stating the reason to be the demand for Maratha quota.

Marathas constitute almost 30 per cent of the state’s population. This politically influential community has been been demanding 16 per cent reservation in government jobs and education.

To voice their demand the Mratha community had called for statewide protests in July and August, this year.
