Miss Africa Zozibini Tunzi has won 2019 Miss Universe pageant on Sunday night, defeating almost 90 other women belonging to several countries and territories in the annual competition.
Steve Harvey hosted ‘Miss Universe 2019’ for the fifth time, and he once again entered into controversy as the host made a ‘cartel’ joke while talking to Miss Colombia.
The host jokingly declared that Miss Colombia Gabriela Tafur had made it to the Top 20, he looked anxious while turning to his card to prove that she, in fact, has made it in the Top 20. He even spelled the name of Colombia out loud and said “Nailed it,” as Gabriela attempted to ride with his humor.
Tafur decided to have a little fun as well, and jokingly asked Harvey, “Are you sure you read correctly? Should I go back? Tell me what to do!”
Tafur added, “You’re forgiven, don’t worry. You’ve forgiven me [but] the cartel has not, they’re not handling it the same way.”
The netizens shared their views on Twitter who felt it was offensive and inappropriate to immediately jump to jokes about the Colombian cartel.
