Coronavirus: PM Narendra Modi imposes ‘Janta Curfew’ on March 22

In Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s live speech, he addressed that the country should observe ‘Janta Curfew’ on March 22, to avoid the spread of the coronavirus.

“Please maintain a Janta (public) curfew on March 22 (Sunday) from 7 am to 9 pm. Let’s exercise restraint on that day and avoid going out unless it is absolutely necessary,” he also said that also elderly people, especially those above 65 years should not to go out.

Modi mentioned that there are emergency workers out on the field who have high risks of getting affected but they are fulfilling their responsibilities, Modi said to acknowledge the contribution of health staff and other such workers.

“On the occasion of Janata Curfew, at 5:00 pm on our doors, balconies or wherever, for 5 minutes, express our gratitude for these workers. How? By clapping, by ringing a bell. I request local admin to blow a siren to inform everyone about this,” says PM Modi

He also pledged that the country that the government is taking all measures to assure that citizens do not face any supply shock. “Please refrain from panic buying and stockpiling essentials,” he said.

PM Modi stated how the belief that India will not be affected by the virus is wrong, “Believing that India won’t be affected by this pandemic is wrong, For a country like India with a huge population, coronavirus poses an even bigger challenge.”

Earlier today, a statement from Press Information Bureau was passed that stated that no international commercial flight will be allowed to land in India starting March 22 for one week i.e. March 29.
