Mumbai: Fire in Andheri west high-rise; claims two

n Tuesday night, Fire in Mumbai's Andheri west high-rise claimed two lives and injured three, in the 21-storey Kadam Chawl, on Veera Desai Road.

On Tuesday night, fire broke out in the 21-storey Kadam Chawl, a SRA building, on Veera Desai Road in Andheri West killed. The devastating fire claimed two lives and left three others with minor burn injuries.

According to Fire officials, the fire broke out at around 8:20 pm on Tuesday, in a flat on the tenth floor and on the 11th floor respectively. Five fire engines were rushed to the spot. It took two hours for the fire fighting teams to bring it under control. At about 10:10 pm, the fire was doused.

A fire official said, “The fire has now been confined to electrical wiring, household articles, furniture in a flat on the 10th floor and in some portion of a flat on the 11th floor.”

According to the locals present at the scene, the deceased were in their 20s and were found in the drawing room of the tenth floor flat. Both the bodies were burnt beyond recognition. They were immediately taken to Cooper Hospital.
“Two charred bodies were brought in and both have been declared dead. We haven’t been able to identify them or their gender. We will investigate further,” said Cooper Hospital dean, Ganesh Shinde.

Investigations are underway. Details about the deceased are not yet ascertained.

In the meantime, some concerned citizens also took their Twitter accounts to spread news.
