Nokia 7.1 launch: Android Pie update for Nokia 6, 6.1 Plus in October

At the Nokia 7.1 launch event in London, HMD Global announced that it will start Android 9.0 Pie updates for more of its handsets.

The recent launch of Nokia 7.1 was filled with heartening announcements for the users of the company’s smartphones. Apart from the launch of the much anticipated phone, HMD Global offered more good news for the users at the event. The company has announced that it will start Android 9.0 Pie updates for more of its handsets after rolling it for Nokia 7 Plus recently.

As expected, users of some of the best-selling handsets, Nokia 6.1 and Nokia 6.1 Plus, running on Snapdragon 600 SoC series, will be the first ones to receive the updates in October this year. This will be followed by Nokia 8 and Nokia 8 Sirocco handsets, which will run on the Android Pie 9.0 update from November this year. The recently launched phone, Nokia 7.1 Plus, which is currently running on Android Oreo programme, is also among the handsets to get Android Pie 9.0 update in November of 2018.

Moreover, the company has also confirmed that more handsets might also be eligible for the update in the coming months. However, the company has not mentioned the exact dates from which the updates are expected to start rolling for the aforementioned handsets.

The announcements once again give a big signal about HMD Global’s plan to go all out with the Android One programme, which provide users with monthly security updates, right up to two years since their respective launches.
