Noted journalist and writer Ravi Belagere passed away in the wee hours Friday. Belagere, editor of popular Kannada tabloid Hai Bangalore suffered a cardiac arrest on Thursday at midnight. He was editing his tabloid at his office in Padmanabha Nagar in South Bengaluru. The writer was rushed to a hospital but did not respond to treatment. He breathed his last around 2:30 am on Friday.
Belagere’s mortal remains will be kept at his Prarthana School premises for people and dignitaries to pay their last respects.
Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa condoled Belagere’s death, and shared on Twitter, “I pray to the almighty to give courage to his family and fans to bear the loss.”
Belagare was born on March 15, 1958, in Ballari. He became popular through his crime and political reporting in various newspapers and magazines of Karnataka. His column ‘Paapigala Lokadalli’, a series on the Bengaluru underworld was very popular. His television programme ‘Crime Diary’ also became extremely popular. He soon started his own Kannada tabloid “Hi Bangalore” that is loved in Karnataka. He had also launched “O Manase”, a fortnightly magazine.
Ravi was a recipient of several awards including the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award, Rajyothsava award and the Karnataka Media Academy Award for Lifetime achievement among others.
