The pandemic Coronavirus outspread has seen a rapid surge in India. This week the country’s single-day highest spike crossed the mark of 3 lakh fresh cases. PM Narendra Modi in his address to the nation has also confessed about the nation dealing with oxygen and vaccine crises. Pfizer which is an American-based multinational pharmaceutical corporation plans to help India in its COVID-19 fight with ‘not-for-profit’ rate vaccines, according to the latest reports.
Apparently, in an officially issued statement a spokesperson from Pfizer stated, “For India, Pfizer has offered a not-for-profit price for its vaccine for the Government immunization program. We continue to be in discussions with the Government and remain committed to make our vaccine available for deployment in India’s immunization program.”
India recently fast-tracked the foreign-made vaccines for emergency use in hospitals. And Pfizer was the first company to seek emergency approval from the drug testing department. According to SII CEO Adar Poonawalla, the Indian government’s decision to allow companies to set their own prices for Covid-19 vaccines in the open market was apparently a smart move to attract more foreign vaccines.
