PM Modi and PM Hasina to meet today to discuss Teesta water sharing

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to meet today at Shantiniketan on the campus of the University founded by Rabindranath Tagore and West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee will be sharing the dais with them.

The event is being labelled as a cultural meeting. The main talking points between the countries will be of the focus the Teesta river water sharing treaty that has been hanging fire for years and the Rohingya refugee problem. Myanmar says it will take back the 10 lakh refugees now living in Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Dhaka wants Myanmar to keep its word.

India was strongly against the entry of Rohingya in the country for political reasons.

The other items on the agenda include the convocation of the central University, Visva Bharti, whose chancellor is PM Modi, the inauguration of Bangladesh Bhavan built by the Hasina government. She will also have dinner with Mamta Banerjee at the Raj Bhavan.
