The Punjab Government issued a notice directing all schools to resume classes for all from August 2. They further asked the schools to open classes with proper protocol. It is to ensure Covid-19 appropriate behaviour.
In a letter written by the Additional Chief Secretary, the Punjab government said, “All schools are allowed to open for all classes from 2nd August 2021. They shall follow proper protocol to ensure Covid-19 appropriate behaviour. Department of School Education shall issue instructions in this regard.” The Department of School Education is yet to lay out instructions in this regard.
Implementation of directives from the MHA/state government also extends to the District authorities. They added that the wearing of face masks and maintaining social distancing is mandatory for all.
The state government on July 20 had announced the resumption of offline classes for the 10th and 12th classes from July 26. But during a COVID review meet, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had said schools will be allowed to open for Classes 10 to 12. But teachers and students who are fully vaccinated will be allowed to be physically present.
Punjab on Friday reported 49 new Covid-19 cases, taking the state’s tally to 5,99,053. No Covid-related deaths were reported in the past 24 hours. The death toll now stands at 16,292, including two deaths that were not reported earlier, according to the state’s health bulletin. The state has 544 active cases of Covid-19 and most of the new infections are reported from Jalandhar, Ferozepur and Ludhiana.
