Section 377 Verdict: Supreme Court announces homosexuality legal in India. See how politicians, activists react to SC judgement!

The section 377 verdict has been delivered by the Supreme Court, announcing homosexuality legal in India. It further observed LGBT community also has an equal right like others. There were several pleas filed in the Supreme Court challenging the validity of Section 377, but now the apex court has finally declared it legal and abolished Section 377.

Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra has delivered one more historic judgement. He reads the verdict of Section 377, “Sustenance of identity is the pyramid of life.” He further reads, “ Section 377 is irrational, arbitrary and incomprehensible, and LGBT community also enjoys the same right as the other citizen.”

As the Section 377 judgment is declared, and Homosexuality is no more a crime in India, like several other countries around the world. Let’s have a glimpse of Twitter, how people are celebrating the section 377 verdict or reacting.

Renowned Congressman Shashi Tharoor tweeted and wrote that it shames those BJP MPs who vociferously opposed me in Lok Sabha. He was the leader who Introduced a bill in Lok Sabha to decriminalise the homosexuality in India in 2015, but BJP opposed as they were in Majority.

Congress Official twitter handle also tweeted, “Haters gonna hate. Hang in there and have hope.

Tahseen Poonawalla also tweeted,   is an assault not just on the fundamental rights of our fellow citizens but also makes heterosexuals criminals: coz blow jobs, anal sex , going down on your woman, sex toys are also classified as ‘criminal activities’ against the order of nature!

Congress Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala Tweeted on Section 377 and called verdict a monument.  “Supreme Court verdict on is momentous. An age-old colonial law, that was an anachronism in today’s modern times, ends restoring the fundamental rights & negating discrimination based on sexual orientation. It’s an imp step forward towards a liberal, tolerant society.

India’s former Minister for Telecom and Member of Parliament Milind Deora also tweeted on Section 377.

Historian of Indian democracy, biographer of Gandhi, Ramchandra Guha also tweeted, They have undone a disgraceful judgment by one of their own and shamed UPA and NDA Governments who put bigotry above humanity.

An activist Harish Iyer also tweeted on Section 377 verdict.  wrote, “We will rise together. We will fight together. We will be together. Our fight for equality doesn’t end with the reading down of section 377. This is the firsts of many firsts. We will win each one of them. And we will be equal. Keep the faith. Hold our hands.”
