Indian cricket team opener, Shikhar Dhawan is out of the remaining matches of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 due to a fracture on his left thumb during the match against Australia. He had scans and was under the observation of the BCCI medical team. But he has not recovered fully from the injury and needs longer recovery time. So, he won’t be playing the remaining matches.

Sunil Subramaniam, India’s team manager, said, “Following several specialist opinions, he’ll be in a cast till mid-July and is ruled out of the World Cup. Dhawan’s fracture is at the base of the first metacarpal on his left hand. We’ve requested for Rishabh Pant as a replacement.”

Dhawan suffered the thumb injury after being hit by a Pat Cummins during India’s match against Australia.

KL Rahul played in the absence of Shikhar Dhawan in the match against Pakistan and now wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is likely to be added in the team.

The next World Cup match of India is on June 22 against Afghanistan. India has won all the three matches against South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
