The contest was reduced to 17-overs-a-side after rain interrupted the Aussie innings and the Indians had to chase down a revised total of 174 runs in 17 overs–which they failed to do achieve, falling short by an agonising margin of four runs at the end via DLS method.

Despite this attractive knock by Dhawan, India needed 13 runs to win from the last over and they could only manage to score 169/7, losing the thrilling contest.
