Tamil actor Thavasi passes away in Madurai hospital

Tamil actor and comedian Thavasi, who had been undergoing treatment for cancer passed away. He was 60 years old. The popular actor was admitted at Madurai’s Saravana Multispeciality Hospital. He was undergoing treatment for oesophageal cancer. Thavasi’s health condition turned critical over the last week. He lost his battle to cancer and breathed his last on Monday evening.

Character actor Thavasi was admitted in Saravana Hospital on November 11 for oesophageal cancer. He was fitted with oesophageal stent. While he was in the general ward, today he got breathlessness and was shifted to emergency care. He died around 8 pm today. I express my deepest condolences to his family, friends and fans,” DMK MLA Saravanan, who is the Managing Director of the hospital, tweeted on Monday.

A viral video highlighting Thavasi’s dire financial situation went viral recently. Soon popular South star came forward to help the actor, reported TNM. Vijay Sethupathi, Sivakarthikeyan, Rajinikanth, Soundarya and Simbu are some of the people from the entertainment industry who stepped forward to help him.

Thavasi has been part of movies like Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam, Kizhakku Cheemayile and more. He has also acted in Rajini Murugan and Appukutty’s Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai and in the TV show Rasathi. Thavasi’s last film was Rajinikanth’s Annaatthe, which is yet to hit the screens.
