UEFA Champions League: Pressure on Niko Kovac eases following Bayern’s 2-0 win over AEK Athens

Easing a lot of pressure on coach Niko Kovac, Bayern Munich beat AEK Athens by scoring two times in three minutes in the Group E encounter on Wednesday.

Relieving a lot of pressure on coach Niko Kovac, Bayern Munich beat AEK Athens by scoring two times in a space of just three minutes in the Group E encounter on Wednesday.

It was just last weekend that the German giants were finally able to win a match after four games against Wolfsburg.

At the Athens Olympic stadium on Tuesday, they were redeemed by goals from Javi Martinez and Robert Lewandowski as they now have seven points from three matches.

Martinez scored in the 61st minute through a scissor-kick while just two minutes later, Lewandowski pounced on a low cross from Rafinha to double the lead.  Despite Bayern’s poor start to the season wherein they find themselves at the fourth place with 16 points from 8 games played, Kovac has been supported by the board and this win, after his side’s victory over Wolfsburg, is sure to ease a lot of pressure on the Croatian.

Meanwhile, Ajax defeated Benfica 1-0 with the goal coming as late as in the 92nd minute.

In Group H where all the attention was hogged by the Manchester United-Juventus clash, Young Boys and Valencia played out a 1-1 draw after Michy Batshuayi had given the Spanish side the lead.

Daniel Parejo went on to concede a penalty which allowed the Swiss club to level the scores after Guillaume Hoarau scored from the spot.

In Group F, Lyon were held to a dramatic 3-3 draw by Hoffenheim for whom, the third goal and the leveller came in the 92nd minute.

Roma now top Group G with a superior goal difference to that of Real Madrid after they convincingly defeated CSKA Moscow 3-0 with striker Edin Dzeko scoring a scintillating brace.
