UGC directs varsities to observe Surgical strike day on September 29 and ordered to conduct talk-sessions by ex-servicemen about the sacrifices by forces

The universities and higher education institutes were ordered by the University Grants Commission (UGC) on Thursday that they should observe “Surgical strike day” on September 29.

The commission elaborated on the activities that should don on September 29 include talk-sessions by ex-servicemen talking about the sacrifices by the armed forces, visiting exhibitions, special parades and sending greeting cards to the army to pledge support for armed forces.

“The NCC units of all universities should organise a special parade on September 29 after which the NCC commander shall address them on the modalities of protection of the borders. The varsities may organise a talk-session calling ex-serviceman to sensitise students about sacrifices made by the armed forces,” the UGC’s communication to all Vice Chancellors was quoted as saying by The Indian Express on Thursday.

“A multimedia exhibition will be organised around India Gate on September 29. Similar exhibitions may be organised in states, union territories, important towns and cantonments across the country. The institutions should encourage students and faculty members to visit these exhibitions,” the letter was quoted as saying by the same paper.

Suggestions have also been sent to the students to pledge their support for the armed forces through letters and cards that may be different formats like digital and physical. “The letters and cards should be shared with PRO Defence and PIB for publicity across various media,” the UGC was quoted.

However, India carried out surgical strikes on September 29 two years ago on seven terror launch pads across the LoC.
