Adobe made its name as the photo editing tool of choice for desktop computers. Now it’s banking on the smartphone camera. Yes, Adobe has announced Photoshop Camera, an AI-powered smartphone app designed to help you take and edit photos on the go. They have said that the Photoshop camera will be available for Android and iOS by 2020. The free app uses artificial intelligence to add special effects and enhancements to the range of pictures that people take on their phones.

The app uses AI to let you edit pictures within the viewfinder before you take a shot. It will auto-generate editing suggestions based on what it detects is in the photo and what the shooting conditions are.

Abhay Parasnis, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Adobe wrote in his blog, “With Photoshop Camera you can capture, edit, and share stunning photos and moments – both natural and creative – using real-time Photoshop-grade magic right from the viewfinder, leaving you free to focus on storytelling with powerful tools and effects. Leveraging Adobe Sensei intelligence, the app can instantly recognize the subject in your photo and provide recommendations, and automatically apply sophisticated, unique features at the moment of capture.”

In a demo with Business Insider, Adobe demonstrated how the app can detect if a photo has faces, landscapes, food or something else. It will then apply the appropriate filter and also suggest the lenses for the photos. It will also be able to apply the lighting and exposure automatically once it was taken into the app.

At launch, Photoshop Camera will feature a curated selection of lenses created by artists and influencers. The app is available for limited release on Monday. But will be launched publicly in 2020
