Amit Shah Summons Delhi Police Commissioner Over Chandi Chowk Communal Clash

On Sunday, Sanjeev Gupta, who was a fruit seller had an argument with Aas Mohammad. Because Mohammed had parked outside Sanjeev’s home. As the argument escalated, Aas Mohammad allegedly brought people with him and attacked the house of Sanjeev Gupta. Gupta called the police as a result.

As Aas Mohammad was called for questioning, a group demanded his release outside the police station. The group later attacked a temple in the neighborhood and vandalized statues.
On Tuesday, Union Minister Harsh Vardhan visited the area. He appealed to the people to maintain calm. He said to NDTV, “It is very unfortunate and painful. The kind of things done to the temple is unforgivable.”
Congress’s Abhishek Manu Singhvi Tweeted on Tuesday, “Day 2 of the temple incident and no action yet by Home Minister, Delhi Police under the BJP rules Center. We know the ruling party doesn’t care about minorities but does it also not care for the sentiments of majority?”

Finally on Wednesday, Amit Shah summoned the Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik to take control of the situation.

“After some altercation &scuffle over a parking issue in Hauz Qazi, tension arose b/w two groups of people from different communities. We have taken legal action & all efforts are being made to pacify feelings & bring about amity. People are requested to help in restoring normalcy,” DCP Central Delhi had tweeted.

The minister had also said that some anti-social elements are trying to spread rumors through social media. “The police administration is monitoring every activity. I appeal to the people of my constituency to ignore the rumors and notify the police in this regard,” he tweeted

A minor is among those arrested over the violence. Over 1,000 security personnel – police and Central Reserve Police Force – have been posted in the area amid lingering tension. Shops have been shut and the residents have held a peace march.
