Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah will lead the party in the 2019 general elections, said a report in the Times of India on Saturday.
The report, based on a source said that since the BJP party’s constitution allows its president to serve two consecutive full terms of three years each, Shah whose first term as the chief ends in January next year is eligible for one more term to the post.
He had taken over the post from Rajnath Singh following the latter’s decision to quit after being included in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet in 2014 when BJP came to power in the Centre.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) national spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi also confirmed the news with a Tweet on her official handle. Taking a dig at the saffron party she wrote, “I am sure the media will challenge this status quo and the sham of internal democracy… oh wait… Inke liye toh 100 khoon of internal and Indian democracy maaf hain.”
Meanwhile, the report in TOI also informed that the organisational polls are likely to be postponed, allowing the party president and his office bearers to fully focus on the polls.

The decision to let Amit Shah lead the party to the Lok Sabha polls slated to be held in March-April next year and elect him as the president for another year term was reportedly decided on a closed doors office bearers meeting, which was attended by the party’s national office bearers and president of each state.
Shah will also head a two-day national executive meeting of the BJP to discuss and plan the strategy for the upcoming state Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Telangana as well as the Lok Sabha.
