Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and others have been cleared by the Delhi High Court in case of rioting in front of Prime Minister’s house in the year 2012. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal on Monday passed the order.
It is to be noted that, Delhi Chief Minister and six others were booked under rioting and other sections for taking out a procession towards the Prime Minister’s house, where prohibitory orders were issued, on August 26, 2012.
Following their procession, police had fired several rounds of tear gas to drive them off. Some people then attacked the police with flagsticks. The barricade was damaged along with certain plants, the police said.
The police had booked all of them for rioting and other offences under Sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of an offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Apart from Kejriwal, the court has also discharged Ghan Shyam, Mahesh, Deepak Chhabra, Ranjit Bisht, Amit Kumar Singh and Gautam Kumar Singh.
