A 50-year-old man was arrested for raping her five-year-old neighbour in the textile town Bhiwandi, on Friday. The incident took place on Thursday evening when the minor had gone out of her house to purchase something.
The accused lives in Bhiwandi, which is said to be a town of power looms. On the day of the incident, it was raining heavily in Bhiwandi, the minor took shelter near the house of the accused, her neighbour. The accused allegedly pulled her inside his home and raped her, the police told PTI.
When the girl returned home and narrated her ordeal to her mother. Her mother approached the Shanti Nagar police station in Bhiwandi and filed a complaint.
The 50-year-old accused was subsequently arrested and has been booked under relevant sections of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, Police said.
