The Nalanda Medical College Hospital (NMCH) in Patna was transformed into a pool following heavy rainfall during the weekend. The entire hospital including all the wards and intensive care units (ICU) and corridors were covered under water. Swarms of fishes could be seen swimming alongside waste materials like syringes, medicines wrappers, and bedpans, which kept on floating in the waterlogged wards.

Water pumps are being used to flush out the water said, Dr. Chandrasekhar Prasad, as reported by the Times of India.

News agency ANI tweeted few pictures of the inside scenario of the hospital, which showed the abject condition of the patients, who could be seen lying in beds with dirty water flowing inside the rooms.

Incessant rainfall meant across the city meant that not just this hospital but other hospitals and schools as well had gone under the water. The Bailley road, which is a busy street was partly closed for commuters after part of it caved in due to the heavy rain.

Several localities have already been covered in knee-length water and people are forced to wade through such conditions in order to reach their destinations.

Residents living in low-lying areas like Agamkuan, Rajendra Nagar, Makhania Kuan, Pataliputra colony, etc., have had to endure more with drains overflowing, which has led to the passing of dirty and smelly water into their homes.

“It is not only the stagnant water that is causing trouble but also the open manholes which are overflowing,” said a resident who lives in one of those low-lying areas.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has visited several places that have been waterlogged and assured of taking immediate actions to resolve the issue.
