On the occassion of Raksha Bandhan, where the entire country celebrated the pious bond of brothers and sisters, in Bihar’s Katihar district, a woman returning home after purchasing rakhis was shot dead by an unidentified gunman.

Superintendent of Police Vikas Kumar said, “22-year old Priyanka Kumari, was shot at near Sant colony yesterday when she was returning home with her sister. The gunman, who had covered his face with a handkerchief, had stopped the sisters near Sant colony and tried to snatch Priyanka Kumari’s mobile which she resisted following which the miscreant shot at her leaving her seriously injured.”

The woman was immediately rushed to Sadar hospital where the doctors referred her to Katihar Medical College and Hospital where she was declared dead. The miscreant fled the scene after snatching the woman’s mobile phone.

The SP added, “Raids are being conducted to nab the culprit.  A sniffer dog has also been pressed into service to trace the culprit. Police are investigating the matter from all angles.”

In another gruesome incident that occured on August 25, unidentified assailants killed a woman and her two sons while critically injuring her husband in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district, police said.

“The victims were attacked with an axe when they were sleeping in the night, but the reason for the attack is not yet known,” they added.

Sub-Divisional Officer (Police), Santosh Dehariya told IANS on August 26 that some men attacked 40-year-old Bhura Adivasi and his family which consisted of his 35-year-old wife Sapna and 8-year-old Dou and 5-year-old Suraj in Hirapur village.

The miscreants are yet to be identified and the police are investigating the matter.
