Madhya Pradesh: Social media numbers must for Congress MLA job

The aspiring candidates seeking a Congress ticket for upcoming polls in MP must have 15,000 likes on Facebook fan page and 5,000 followers on Twitter.

In an attempt to get maximum popularity and presence on the social media ahead of the Assembly Elections, the Madhya Pradesh Congress has made it mandatory for the aspirants to have exciting social media numbers. The letter issued by the state committee stated that an aspiring legislator must have 15,000 likes on his/her Facebook fan page and 5,000 followers on Twitter.

The above letter issued by the MP Congress stress on the point to have more presence and connectivity with the people, so that more interaction can be made on a regular basis. Along with Facebook and Twitter page numbers, the letter also stated that one has to have the connectivity with booth-level workers vis WhatsApp and should like and retweet every post from the MPCC’s Twitter handle.

MPCC letter

The MPCC mentioned it clearly that those who do not fulfil the prerequisites, mentioned in the letter dated September 2, would not be entertained while issuing party tickets. The Party has set the deadline — September 15 — to fulfil the requisites mentioned.

Since Bharatiya Janata Party had already announced that it has fielded nearly 65,000 social warriors in last three months and are planning to deploy more 5,000; Congress, too, is looking for probable candidates with social influence and presence in the social media. The BJP’s IT cell is forming ‘Lok Sabha Toli’, Congress is on a mission of forming ‘Rajiv Ke Sipahi”.

With new things coming into the limelight before the elections season, it will be interesting to see how both the major players perform in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections. However, the social media presence requisite is way too much considering the educational background of probable politicians in the state.
