COVID-19 Pandemic: 53 Journalists Test Positive For Coronavirus In Mumbai

The COVID-19 Pandemic that originated in Wuhan, China has spread all over the world. India too is combating the deadly virus by imposing a lockdown till May 3 to curb its spread. At present, there are 17,265 confirmed cases of which 14,175 are active, according to the latest update from the Health Ministry. We now have 53 journalists from Mumbai too testing positive.

As per a report in Hindu, At least 53 journalists in Mumbai have tested positive for COVID-19 and the number is likely to go up, officials said on Monday. These 53 journalists include reporters, cameramen of news channels and photojournalists.

Shiv Sena leader and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s health committee member Amey Ghole told HuffPost India that samples of 167 Mumbai journalists had been collected for the test. Out of the 167, 53 have tested positive. He further added that the number could go up. They may move the positive patients o hotels and guest houses. Most are asymptomatic at present.

The Home Ministry has given a statement that the COVID-19 situation is “especially serious” in Mumbai, Pune, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata and a few other places in West Bengal. Strict restrictions continue in districts declared COVID-19 hotspots.

Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla reminded all states to follow the March 31 observations made by Supreme Court. They should comply with the guidelines issued by the MHA. He said that some States are allowing activities not permitted as per MHA guidelines.

Total 2,546 cured or recovered so far from novel coronavirus in India says Health Ministry. In the last 24 hours, 1,553 new cases and 36 new deaths have been reported. Globally, 2,414,098 people have been infected and 165,153 have died so far, according to Worldometer.
