Delhi cop’s son arrested for thrashing woman, Rajnath Singh orders action

Delhi cop's son arrested for thrashing woman after the video went viral on social media. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh orders action

Days after the video of a man beating a woman viral on social media, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh condemned the action and asked Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik to take necessary action in the case. The accused — Chaudhary Rohit Tomar, son of a sub-inspector Delhi Police Ashok Singh Tomar — has been arrested.

Taking to Twitter, Union Minister wrote, “I have taken note of a video where a youth has been seen severely beating a woman. I have spoken to the Delhi Police Commissioner over the phone and directed him to take necessary action in this regard.”

As per the video, Rohit was seen violently beating up a girl in Delhi’s Tilak Nagar on September 2. The incident took place around 3 pm inside a BPO located in Uttam Nagar area, which is owned by Rohit’s friend Ali Hasan. Sources say that Rohit had joined the BPO recently.

Soon after the Delhi Police came to know about the incident — in which she was kicked multiple times and thrashed by Rohit — they tried to contact her. The girl came to the police station and lodged a complaint against the accused. In the complaint, she alleged that Rohit had called her to his friend’s office in North-West Delhi and “made physical relations with her without her consent”. After she threatened that she would file a complaint, Rohit thrashed her mercilessly, she added.

Based on the complaint, Delhi Police formed a team and have arrested the accused. Police have booked Rohit under section 376 (Punishment for rape), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of IPC. Police said that they have sent the girl for medical examination and are investigating the case.
