India reported around 11,717 Black Fungus Cases; Gujarat and Maharashtra tops the list

COVID-19 triggered Black Fungus infection has become one of the biggest concerns for doctors across India. Many states including the UT’s have declared Mucormycosis (Black Fungus) as an epidemic under the Epidemic Diseases Act (1897). The health officials have also warned citizens of finding White and Yellow fungus in COVID-19 patients, which are reportedly more dangerous in comparison to black ones. India reported having around 11,717 Black Fungus cases and states such as Gujarat, Maharashtra tops the list as of by May 25.

The Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Sadananda Gowda has been sharing all the important updates about Mucormycosis on his official Twitter handle. In his recent tweet post, he shared, “Additional 29,250 vials of #Amphotericin- B drug, used in the treatment of #Mucormycosis, have been allocated to all the States/UTs today. The allocation has been made based on the number of patients under treatment which is 11,717 across the country.”

As per the data shared by him, Gujarat reported having 2,859 Black Fungus cases, while Maharashtra reported around 2,770, followed by states such as Andhra Pradesh in the third slot with 768 cases.

It is reported that the COVID-19 triggered Mucormycosis cases are being commonly among people whose immunity weak and people who have been suffering from diabetes, kidney disease, liver or cardiac disorders.
