Massive fire breaks out at high-rise in Sharjah, no casuality

A massive fire was reported at a residential building in Al Nahda in Sharjah late on Tuesday.  The residential tower, named Abbco Tower, has 47 floors, excluding parking. The building has many Indian residents.  Authorities had evacuated residents of the building and that of neighboring ones.

Khaleej Times has reported,  that the fire erupted in the building located next to the Taj Bangalore restaurant around 9 pm. The Civil Defence crew from Mina fire station and Al Nahda rushed to the spot.  Seven people were treated for minor injuries from the fire. They were taken to the hospital for further treatment.

The report further adds, Several cars in the area were damaged by the falling debris. Over 250 families were evacuated from the residential tower, which consists of 36 residential flats and 20 levels of car parking. At least a dozen fire trucks and scores of firefighters were rushed to the spot and the fire was doused. Cooling operations were underway.

 

Officials are yet to confirm the cause of the fire.  A statement from the Indian Embassy in UAE is awaited.
