Muzaffarnagar shelter home case: Supreme Court calls it shocking, horrible and scary

Muzaffarnagar shelter home case: SC calls it shocking, horrible and scary. Brajesh Thakur is an influential person and needed to move out of Bihar jail.

The Supreme Court of India while pursuing the status report filed on Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) termed the Muzaffarnagar Shelter home abuse ‘shocking, horrible and scary’, where several girls were allegedly raped, sexually abused and murdered.

The bench headed by Justice Madan B Lokur perused the status report and said ‘what is this going on? This is horrible’. The apex court has issued a notice against prime accused Brajesh Thakur to explain, “Why he should not be transferred to a jail outside the state’?

“CBI has made serious allegations against Thakur. We have also noted the influence wielded by him. In view of the serious nature of allegations made against him, it’s not appropriate for him to be lodged in any jail in Bihar,” the court said.

The CBI in its status report said that Thakur is an influential person. They recovered a mobile phone from him inside the jail where he is currently lodged under judicial custody. The bench also comprising of Justices S Abdul Nazeer and Deepak Gupta noted that Thakur is an influential person and needed to move out of Bihar jail to another state.

Over 30 girls were allegedly raped at the shelter home run by Brajesh Thakur — the chief of a state-funded NGO. The shelter home case came to light almost five-months ago, in which more than 30 girls were sexually exploited and one of the victims was killed and buried in order to hide the murder.

“What is the Bihar government doing?” the court said. Beside Brajesh Thakur, the apex court also asked the Bihar government and CBI to explain the delay in tracing the location of ex-minister Manju Verma’s husband Chandrashekhar Verma.

Verma had to resign as the minister of Social Welfare from the Bihar government in the wake of the Muzzafarpur shelter home sexual abuse case. The bench said the CBI team investigating the case should not be changed and posted the matter for hearing on October 30.
