Popular US Rapper Nicki Minaj lost her father Robert Maraj to an accident on Sunday. The 64-year-old was struck by a Hit and Run driver near New York City. Nicki’s father Robert Maraj was walking on a road in Mineola Long island when he was struck. The driver did not stop but kept on moving. Maraj was rushed to a nearby hospital but did not survive the fatal accident.
As reported by CNN, Nassau County Police Department said in a statement, Robert Maraj was struck by a northbound, undescribed, vehicle that left the scene of the accident. He was taken to a hospital in a critical condition but passed away on Saturday due to the injuries. The homicide squad is investigating. They are asking for witnesses to come forward and testify.
As reported by CBS2, they spoke to a resident who lives right in front of where the crash happened. He said, “We just saw a jacket ripped open, cut open, trying to make sure the man had a pulse. All I hoped for was for the person to have a pulse and survive. I’m speechless. I don’t know what to say.”
Minaj, 38, was born Onika Tanya Maraj in Trinidad and was raised in the New York City borough of Queens. The rapper has been nominated for ten Grammy awards during her career.
Nicki Minaj has not made any public statement about her father’s death.
