P Chidambaram: Q1 GDP at 8.2% is statistic, rupee at 70 to a dollar is reality

Former Union finance minister P Chidambaram said that Q1 GDP at 8.2% is statistic and there is no need to be happy, as rupee at 70 to a dollar is a reality.

Taking a jibe at the tall claims of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union Government, on the GDP growth rate for Q1 (Quarterly1), former Union finance minister said that there is no need to go be happy on this, as this situation is just statistic. He added that the today’s reality is not GDP rate but ‘Rupee at 70 to a dollar’ and Diesel price at Rs 70.21.

Responding to the GDP data released by the Centre on Friday, the senior Congress leader took to Twitter and wrote,” Q1 GDP at 8.2 per cent is a statistic. Rupee at 70 to a dollar is a reality. In Delhi, Diesel at Rs 70.21 and Petrol at Rs 78.52, is a cruel blow.”

However, BJP Amit Shah was of the opinion that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Indian economy is witnessing unprecedented growth in every sector, from manufacturing to agriculture. He also stated that the growing GDP is a reflection on the transformative changes ushered by the government.

Shah on Friday had also alleged that when the BJP came to power, the economy of the country was in shambles. But the NDA government single-mindedly focussed on putting India back on track. Sharing his opinion, Shah took to Twitter and wrote.

Following Shah’s tweets, innumerable tweets were posted by the BJP leaders hailing Prime Minister and the Union Finance Minister for bringing about ‘transformative changes’ in the Indian economic condition.
