Rahul Gandhi: A Congress-led govt will fulfill OROP commitments

Congress president Rahul Gandhi said that a Congress-led government at the Centre would fulfill all commitments the party had made regarding ‘one rank, one pension’. Gandhi said during an interaction with a group of ex-servicemen on Saturday.

Training guns at the Narendra Modi government, the Gandhi scion said that the present government has benefitted Rs 30,000 crore to industrialist Anil Ambani but never thought of meeting the demands of soldiers on OROP. He promised the retired personnel of the defence that if his government is voted to power, it will fulfil all demands of the defence personnel including the OROP.

According to Gandhi, Rs 30,000 crore was enough for the government to resolve the OROP matter, but the government in office didn’t think of any constructive move. Gandhi had a nearly an half-an-hour meeting with the defence personnel.

Congress has already alleged that the Rafale deal has benefitted the Anil Ambani-led company on the offset contract. The Anil Ambani firm has denied all allegations levelled again it.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had attacked the BJP-led Union government for ignoring Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to seal the Rafale deal with Reliance Defence, headed by Anil Ambani. It may be recalled that Gandhi had visited Bangaluru to listen to the grievances of HAL workers and had said that the Union government insulted their patriotism.

While addressing the scribes after meeting HAL workers, Gandhi heaped praise on HAL workers. “They (HAL employees) said that they are the most experienced and best company in India to manufacture defence equipment. They are insulted and hurt that their hard work and patriotism has been insulted and questioned by the Government of India,” he had said.
