The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Parliament to create a new panel provision to deal with cases of lynching across the country saying ‘mobocracy can’t take over’ and that ensuring law and order is the government’s responsibility.
The apex court called lynching incidents ‘horrendous acts of mobocracy’ and a series of directions were given to deal with cases of mob lynchings. The court pursued a compliance report from the Centre and State government.

The Supreme court fixed the matter for further hearing on August 28, saying that “No citizen can take law into their own hands. In case of fear and anarchy, the state has to act positively. Violence can’t be allowed.”
The bench comprised of Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice DY Chandrachud.
Hearing the matter on recent increase in mob lynching across the country, the bench observed that no one in the country has the right to take law and order in his or hands and create a situation of anarchy. Recent incidents of mob lynching took place in Bangalore, Tripura and Maharashtra. All the recent cases were hyped by fake WhatsApp messages and they have created a uproar across nationwide.
