The Supreme Court today passed an order in which it has asked the Centre to ensure that deficit in the supply of oxygen to Delhi is rectified within two days. The Apex Court has directed the Centre to ensure that the deficit in the supply of oxygen is rectified before May 3 midnight.
Justices DY Chandrachud, LN Rao, and S Ravindra Bhat have passed a detailed 64-page order, after their hearing on Friday after Delhi hospitals continue to send out frantic SOSs.
The Bench said, “The Central Government shall, in collaboration with the states, prepare a buffer stock of oxygen for emergency purposes and decentralize the location of the emergency stocks. The emergency stocks shall be created within the next four days and are to be replenished on a day-to-day basis, in addition to the existing allocation of oxygen supply to the States.”
The centre has also been given two weeks to finalize a ‘national policy on admissions to hospitals. The Supreme Court has directed that no patient can be denied hospitalization, or essential drugs, for lack of residential proof.
The top court also directed the center to work with state governments to create a buffer stock of oxygen to be used for emergency purposes and decentralize locations of these reserves.
Delhi on Monday reported over 20,000 new Covid cases and over 400 deaths. The active caseload in the city is no over 96,000.
