Delhi High Court directs TDP leader YS Chowdary to appear before ED

Delhi High Court directs TDP leader YS Chowdary to appear before ED. The ED summoned YS Chowdary over alleged financial irregularities.

Delhi High Court on Friday asked senior Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and former Union minister YS Chowdary to appear before Enforcement Directorate.

It is to be noted that Chowdary had approached Delhi High Court seeking quashing of summons issued against him by Enforcement Directorate over alleged financial irregularities. In his plea, Chowdary has alleged political vendetta against him by the present government ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.

Taking a cognizance in his plea, the Delhi High Court has asked Chowdary to appear before Enforcement Directorate over alleged financial irregularities. However, the court has said that no coercive steps to be taken in the case.

On November 24, the ED and the Income Tax Department had conducted raids at the offices and residence of TDP leader YS Chowdary. The ED claimed that the Chowdary’s group of companies have defrauded banks to the tune of Rs 5,700 crore.

The ED had also seized high-end cars that included a Ferrari, Range Rover and Mercedes Benz all registered in the names of shell companies. After this, the ED issued summon to YS Chowdary for further investigation.
