Thane: 17-year-old girl kidnapped while returning from Garba event

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly pulled into car by her neighbours in Maharashtra's Thane district when she was returning from a Dandiya dance event.

A 17-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped by her neighbours in Maharashtra’s Thane district when she was returning from a Garba dance event last night.

The victim is a resident of a Rameshwadi locality in Badlapur township in Thane. She reportedly went along with some of her relatives to enjoy the Garba dance event at a Pandal installed in their locality last night, Thane police spokesperson Sukhada Narkar told NDTV.

“When she was on her way back to home along with her maternal aunt and cousin sister, two men came in a car and caught hold of her. They pulled her into the vehicle and drove away,” the police spokesperson said.

The aunt then informed victim’s parents about the incident. She also identified the two men as the girl’s neighbours, Ms Narkar said.

After girl’s parents were unable to trace her, they registered a police complaint against two neighbours at the Badlapur police station in the early hours of Wednesday morning, she said.

The search operation is underway and police is busy to ascertain the accused location. The accused have been charged under section 363 (kidnapping) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
