The deadly coronavirus that started in China’s Wuhan province has spread its tentacles far and wide. The United States of America has now confirmed a second death from COVID-19. Three more people in the county have also been hospitalized as a result of the disease. There are now 10 confirmed cases of illnesses from the new coronavirus in King County, Washington.
The recent death was of a 70-year-old man at the EvergreenHealth Medical Center in Kirkland. It is the same hospital where the death of a man in his 50s was announced yesterday. The three other new cases are of two women, one in her 80s and one in her 90s, and a man in his 70s. All three are in critical condition.
Washington state now has 12 confirmed cases. As the cases ticked up, some Americans stocked up on basic supplies particularly in areas with diagnosed cases.
State and local authorities have stepped up testing for the illness. This is due to the number of new cases that have grown nationwide, with new infections announced in California, Illinois, Rhode Island, New York, and Washington state. Researchers said earlier the virus may have been circulating for weeks undetected in Washington state.
COVID-19 causes fever, a cough, and shortness of breath. More than 89,000 people have been infected worldwide and more than 3,000 have died.
