As voting for Rajasthan and Telangana Assembly elections underway, people from all walks of life are approaching polling booths to cast their vote, no matter how old are they? There are numbers of photos which are doing the rounds on social media showing old and differently abled men and woman arriving booth to exercise their voting rights.

Amid tightened security, an 80-year-old woman came all the way to cast her vote at booth no 103 in Sardanpura constituency of Jodhpur district in Rajasthan.

In the same constituency, another 90-year old man can be seen being taken to the polling booth to cast his vote.

Even, 97-year-old Nagender Singh Chouhan and his 85-year-old wife Yuvraj Kuwar who cast their votes at a polling station in Jhalawar.

A differently abled woman arrives polling booth to cast her vote. There are about 4.36 lakh differently-abled voters in the state, out of total 4.74 electors, and for them, special arrangements have been made at the polling booths.

An elderly couple from Dungarpur reached the polling station to cast their votes despite having suffered serious injuries in a road accident recently.

Chief electoral officer Anand Kumar said that differently abled had requested for engaging them in election duty therefore three polling booths, two in Udaipur and one in Nagaur, have been selected for being operated fully by them. “This will give a message that they are no less than anyone,” Kumar said.

“Facilities like a ramp, wheelchairs will be available while over 1.03 lakh volunteers of NCC, NSS, scouts and guides have been engaged. Arrangements for pick and drop have also been made for differently abled voters,” Chief electoral officer Anand Kumar had said that while briefing about election-related arrangements.
