Harassed for three years, 17-yr-old girl commits suicide in UP

For the past two-three years, the girl was being harassed by a man in the same village

Harassed for last three three years, a 17-year-old girl in Kannauj of Uttar Pradesh committed suicide by hanging self.

Family of the victim stated that for the past two-three years, the girl was being harassed by a man. According the the relatives, the local police did not took the matter seriously even after repeated complaints were made. Also case against the alleged accused Roop Kumar a.k.a. Bablu, resident of the same village, was not filed.

Victim’s mother added that since no complaint was filed or action was taken against the alleged accused, Kumar threaten the victim that he will kill her and continued to harass her. She said, “My daughter was being harassed by Roop Singh for the past two-three years. When she told us about we took to the police to lodge a complaint. We went to the police twice but, they didn’t take any action. This encouraged Roop Singh and he threatened my daughter that he would kill us. My daughter got so terrified that she hanged herself.”

Though the police are trying to cover up the matter, by saying that a case has been registered and they are probing the reason for suicide, the family is not ready to believe. Speaking to media, Superintendent of Police Kirit Kumar Rathod said, “A case has been registered, as of now the reason of the suicide is not known. We are investigating the matter. I have talked to the station head and, prima facie it was found that the victim and the accused had a relationship earlier.”
