50 years of Anand: Timeless Dialogues of Rajesh Khanna & Amitabh Bachchan’s Iconic Film

In 1971, on this day, the iconic film Anand featuring the original superstar Rajesh Khanna released. The movie also featured another legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan. Together the duo gave us a lesson on love, friendship, life, and death. Directed by one of the greatest filmmakers of Indian cinema – Hrishikesh Mukherjee the movie not only had a story that lingered long in your hearts but also some memorable songs.

Not many know that the story of the film was based on Bollywood’s showman Raj Kapoor who was a close friend of Hrishida. Mukherjee’s fear of losing his friend inspired him to pen Anand.

The film tells the story of Anand (Rajesh Khanna), a happy-go-lucky man who kept a positive outlook towards life despite suffering from cancer. When meets doctor Bhaskar (Amitabh Bachchan) he changes the latter’s life. The two form a deep friendship that crosses the barrier of life and death.
