No- Confidence Vote Takeaway: Old rhetorics, theatrics and shayaris

420

At the monsoon session of the Parliament, all eyes were on the politicians as the Opposition demanded a No-Confidence Motion against the Narendra Modi led BJP government however. However, what happens next will shock you, or not really.

As the 12 hour-Marathon session droned out like an old, dysfunctional vacumn cleaner, some of the politicians decided to show off their creative sides. The Monsoon session turned into a full-blown Mushayara session for the politicians. Right from AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi to Ramdas Athawale to Farookh Abdullah, everyone turned a shayar while putting forth their views in the parliament. And who can forget our multi-talented Prime Minister Narendra Modiji. Modiji, also with a sly smile, shared a shayari too.

However, this has not been the first time when a Parliament session seemed like a full-blown Open Mic, except open-mics don’t waste the tax payers’ money. At the end of the session the takeaways were plain and simple. It was a waste of time, with the same old debates and the government offering platitudes with nothing constructive coming out of it. Except, we realised that our politicians have a flair of shayari, and can be approached by the open mic organisers to have one of these stalwarts to perform for them.

For people who followed the Marathon 12 hour Parliament session, expected a more constructive debate and a more stringent takeaway. Instead, most of the politicians decided to show off their comic timings and appreciation for the literary arts. While, we never see these politicians openly supporting poetry groups, they only take respite in poetry when it comes to proving a point in debates. The cultural arts have always been neglected by the governments all across the globe, thereby only promoting institutes of empiral sciences, but yet they seek solace in the arms of culture only when cornered. The Parliament session which had a full-house yesterday became all about theatrics and performances, yet we never see such a turnout for actual experimental theater or cultural performances.

Well, we are no one to judge politicians for their love of ‘poetry and shayaris’. The great poets and shayars published their works with a view to unite people who love performing arts. They tried to bridge the differences between people of different races and cultures. What a shame to see their works being used by politicians as a means to settle their petty scores against each other.
