Paris St-Germain confirms Neymar Jr, Kylian Mbappe injuries

Paris St-Germain has confirmed that Neymar Jr and Kylian Mbappe will require further medical tests on the injuries they sustained while on international duty with their national team ahead of the French club’s crunch tie against Liverpool in the Champions League.

The attacking pair was forced off after suffering injuries during Brazil and France’s respective friendlies during the international break.

Neymar limped off with a groin strain just eight minutes into the encounter, while Mbappe requested to be substituted in the 36th minute after landing awkwardly following a tackle from Uruguay goalkeeper Marin Campana.

PSG, who take on Toulouse in Ligue 1 at home on Saturday before hosting Liverpool three days later, issued a statement that the players will undergo 48 hours of treatment before it can be confirmed whether they can take the field against Liverpool.

Meanwhile, the French champions informed that Neymar has suffered “a right adductor strain”, while Mbappe has “a bruised right shoulder”.

“They will undergo a 48-hour period of treatment before further evaluation,” the club was quoted as saying by The Independent.

Despite their injuries, Brazil and France secured 1-0 victories over Cameroon and Uruguay respectively.

Domestically PSG lead the points table with a 100% wins record. Thomas Tuchel’s men have won all 13 of their Ligue 1 matches and are well-placed at the top above their next placed opponents.

In the Champions League though, they are third in the table, one point behind Napoli and Liverpool. and with just one victory from four matches last season’s quarter-finalists face danger of being eliminated from the group stage.

They host last season’s losing finalists Liverpool before facing Red Star Belgrade of Serbia in their last group fixture.

Bith Neymar and Mbappe have been instrumental to PSG’s sweet run in the league and while the Brazilian has netted 15 goals and six assists in 17 appearances across all competitions, the French youngster has scored 17 goals six assists in 18 matches.
