Adar Poonawalla announce cost reduction for COVID-19 vaccine to Rs. 300 per vaccine

The CEO of the Serum Institute of India, Adar Poonawalla officially announced about reducing the cost of the COVID-19 vaccine to Rs. 300 per vaccine. Earlier the cost was at Rs. 400 each

To be a helping hand in the nation’s fight against the pandemic, the Serum Institute of India has reduced its cost for vaccines. Adar Poonawalla (CEO of Serum Institute) has officially announced the news today.

Stating it a philanthropic work with the intention to save lives amidst the pandemic, Adar Poonawalla shared a cryptic post on his Twitter handle on Wednesday. It read, “As a philanthropic gesture on behalf of @SerumInstIndia, I hereby reduce the price to the states from Rs.400 to Rs.300 per dose, effective immediately; this will save thousands of crores of state funds going forward. This will enable more vaccinations and save countless lives.”

For the unversed, the Covishiled price for the private market remains at Rs. 600 per dose. On the other side, Bharat Biotech has fixed the price of its Covid-19 vaccine and Covaxin at Rs. 600 per dose for state governments and at Rs. 1,200 per dose for private hospitals.

India to begin its second massive vaccination drive from May 1st. The registration for the vaccines on CoWin website has begun from today onwards (April 28) for people above the age of 18. The government has urged the netizens to register and get immunized.
