The court had taken cognizance of the matter as and when the video of Raja going viral and asked the leader to be present in court. The leader appeared on Monday to offer unconditional apology. Following his apology, the court ordered the closure of the case.  “I had turned emotional,” H Raja said in court.

But the BJP leader didn’t straightaway offer apology even after he was shown making derogatory remarks on cops and judges as he earlier claimed that the video was not genuine.

The national secretary of the saffron party was seen in a clip shouting at the cops when he was thwarted from taking a Vinayaka Chaturthi rally via a communally sensitive route, which was banned by court orders. The leader not only accused the police of taking bribe, but also used derogatory remarks about the honourable court.

While taking note of the video, the court said that the video was “scandalous”.

It may be recalled that cases were filed against the same politician on several instances in past. He was accused of making defamatory remarks against former DMK supremo M Karunanidhi and some temple staff too. The Coimbatore police registered case against him some six months ago.
